With the absence of motion controls that could have taken this port to a whole new level, BioShock: The Collection (Switch) is probably best played docked and hooked up to a Pro-Controller or an accessory that ticks the same box. Unfortunately, prolonged sessions using the Joy-Con controllers can ultimately feel quite uncomfortable. It’s a real novelty being able to battle a Big Daddy during your morning commute (one of the series’ trademark foes, not a bulky parent just to clarify). There’s no denying how impressive it is to be able to experience all this series has to offer on the go.

This can be remedied by maxing out the sensitivity in the settings menu but it still removes a sense of smoothness from the gameplay. It’s impossible not to stray from the beaten path and lose yourself in what you see and it’s one of many reasons the series remains such an iconic and meaningful experience to this date.īutton mapping in the Switch version deserves a round of applause for a job well done, but the same cannot be said for aiming which can feel awfully rigid.
